Blugolds fly past the Pointers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 3 ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team were back on home ice on Saturday when they hosted the UW-Stevens Point Pointers. After tying a night before, the Blugolds scored early and often to secure a 4-0 victory.

Eau Claire wasted no time gaining the lead after Hanna Zavoral (Jr. – St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) would gather a stretch pass, enter the offensive zone all alone, and beat the Pointer goalie on her backhand just 16 seconds into the game.

After the initial tally, the Blugolds would not let up, scoring twice more in the opening frame. Dehli Heikes (Fr. – Hermantown, MN) would score her first goal as a Blugold just a little over halfway through the period. Emma Peterson (Jr. – Superior, WI) would gets the other tally to increase her season total to eight goals.

The second period would start similar to the first with Eau Claire firing on all cylinders. Abby Roeser (Sr. – Cottage Grove, MN/East Ridge) would score the fourth goal and her second of the weekend series to seal things for the Blugolds.

Goaltender Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) stopped all 17 shots she faced to earn her fifth shutout of the season. Connolly is now 15-1-2 on the season.

The Blugolds will be back in action next weekend when they host Northland College for a two games series at Hobbs Ice Center. Friday's contest is scheduled for 7PM and Saturday's is set for 2PM.
