EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted nonconference opponent Augsburg University on Tuesday evening. Coming into the game, Eau Claire had not lost on home ice. Backed by good goaltending, the Blugolds would glide through the night on their way to a 4-0 win.
Sydney Hendricks (Fr. – Hudson, WI) would get things started early in the 1st after scooping up a rebound in front of the net for the game's first tally. Things would heat up throughout the game resulting in 20 total penalty minutes between the two teams.
The middle frame would see the red hot Blugold powerplay capitalize yet again, as Ella Ierino (So. – Duluth, MN) would beat the Augsburg goalie top-shelf to make it 2-0. Emily Bauer (Sr. – Wausau, WI/East) and Hanna Zavoral (Jr. – St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) would each earn assists on the goal.
The final frame was another even tilt between the two physical teams, but Eau Claire would power through after Hendricks would score her second of the night and Abby Roeser (Sr. – Cottage Grove, MN/East Ridge) would hit an empty net to seal the deal.
Goaltender Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) recorded her fifth shutout of the year after stopping all 20 shots she faced. Connolly is now 13-1-1 on the season.
The Blugolds will retake the ice on Saturday, January 25th when they host UW-Stevens Point at Hobbs Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 2PM.
