Blugold special teams play surges past Yellowjackets

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team returned to home ice on Saturday as they took on UW-Superior at Hobbs Ice Arena. After an evenly match tilt through two periods, the Blugold powerplay came up big to propel Eau Claire to a 1-0 win.

With both squads locked at 0-0 after 40 minutes of play, it was Emma Peterson (Jr. – Superior, WI) breaking the scoreless evening and sending home a rebound to give Eau Claire the 1-0 lead. It was Peterson's fifth goal on the year and her fourth game winning goal this season.

The Blugold special teams have been unstoppable this year posting an impressive 26.9% over 78 opportunities. During conference play the efficiency soars to 42.9%.

Goaltender Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) stopped all 19 shots she faced to earn her fourth shutout of the year. Connolly is now 12-1-1.

The Blugolds will be back in action on Tuesday, January 21st as they take on Augsburg University at Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire, WI. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM.
