LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team concluded their weekend tournament at Lake Forest College as they faced off against No. 5 Elmira College for a top-10 matchup. The No. 6 Blugolds would come away with a 2-0 win.
Special teams has been red hot as of late for the Blugolds and then continued that in the first period after a strike from Emily Bauer (Sr. – Wausau, WI/East) would give Eau Claire the first goal of the afternoon on a power play.
The Blugold power play wouldn't stop at just one as Hanna Zavoral (Jr. – St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) would net her third goal and tenth point of the year to extend the Eau Claire lead to 2-0 heading into the third period.
The final period would showcase a strong defensive Eau Claire front that only allowed three shots. The Blugolds would finish with 20 shots of their own while only giving up 10.
Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) picked up the win in goal on her way to her second shutout of the season. Her record improves to 6-1-1 on the season.
The Blugolds will take a break before heading back on the road on December 10th when they travel to Minnesota to take on Hamline University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul, MN.
