Women's Hockey tallies 3-0 win over Cobbers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) on Friday night, defeating the Cobbers 3-0 for their fifth shutout of the season.

The Blugolds lit the lap early, as Drew Deanovich (Fr. – Fond du Lac) notched her first goal as a Blugold off assists from Hanna Zavoral (Jr. – St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) and Emily Bauer (Sr. – Wausau, WI/East). The lead would hold for the rest of the period as the No. 5-ranked Blugolds took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Blugolds would have several scoring opportunities but would not be able to find the back of the net and after forty minutes of play would have a commanding 28-9 advantage in shots and 26-8 in faceoffs won.

Eau Claire would take control late in the final frame, as Emma Peterson (Jr. – Superior, WI) would score on the power play at the 17:25 mark and Zavoral would add an empty net power play goal a minute later to secure the win.

The Blugolds would finish the night out-shooting the Cobbers 48-17 and won 38 of 55 faceoffs.

Goaltender Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) recorded 17 saves on the night to earn the shutout and give the Blugolds their ninth win of the season.
