EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Nine UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, three at home and six on the road.
Men's Cross Country
WIAC Championship - 1st of 9
The men's cross country team, ranked second in the nation, took first place at the 2014 WIAC Championship at Ettrick Golf Course, winning the second conference title in school history, the first since 1980. The Blugolds took the top two spots, led by Josh Thorson, who won the WIAC individual title with a time of 24:24.50 on the 8,000-meter course. He is just the third individual in school history to take the top spot at the WIAC Championship.

Women's Cross Country
WIAC Championship - 3rd of 9
Behind four top-20 finishes, the women's cross country team came in third place at the 2014 WIAC Championship at Ettrick Golf Club today. UW-La Crosse won its second straight WIAC title after scoring 32 points, which matched last year's total. UW-Oshkosh took second with 72 points while UW-Eau Claire was third with 73. Leading the Blugolds was Lucy Ramquist (Jr.-River Falls, Wis.), who came in fifth place with a time of 22:24.27.

Football
UW-Eau Claire 20, UW-Stout 17
The football team captured the "War on I-94" trophy after defeating UW-Stout 20-17 at Carson Park this afternoon.While Eau Claire trailed late in the fourth quarter, a touchdown pass from Joel Newman (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.) to Lucas Emmerich (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) gave the Blugolds a lead they wouldn't give up. The winning drive lasted six minutes and encompassed 68 yards in 12 plays, ending in the four-yard touchdown pass with 3:26 to play.

Women's Volleyball
UW-Oshkosh 3, UW-Eau Claire 2 (22-25, 30-28, 25-21, 22-25, 15-7)
In a hard-fought battle, the women's volleyball team narrowly fell to UW-Oshkosh 3-2 in the McPhee Physical Education to end the Blugolds' season. As a team, the Blugolds hit .219 with 66 kills and 17 errors while Oshkosh totaled 77 kills and 29 errors with a hitting percentage of .203. The Blugolds finished with a total of five blocks. Katrina Raskie led the match with 19 kills.
Wrestling
RCTC Open
Five wrestlers finished in sixth place or better, opening the season at the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjacket Open today. At 285 pounds, Eau Claire saw the most success as two Blugolds wrestled for third place after going 3-1 to start the day.

UW-Eau Claire 148, Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) 139
The men's swimming and diving team won their first dual meet of the season defeating Gustavus Adolphus College 148-139 here today at the Lund Center. The Blugolds won seven individual events.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) 200, UW-Eau Claire 100
The women's swimming and diving team fell in a dual meet to host Gustavus Adolphus College 200-100 here today at the Lund Center. Two Blugolds won three different events while the Blugolds also earned four runner-up finishes.
Women's Soccer
UW-Eau Claire 3, UW-River Falls 2 (OT)
Down 2-1 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, the women's soccer team scored the tying goal to force overtime where they scored the game-winning goal to defeat UW-River Falls 3-2 here today at Ramer Field. With time winding down Sami Matuszak tied the game at 88:20. Tara Dennehy scored her fifth goal of the year at 95:21 to win the game for the Blugolds.
Women's Hockey
Bethel (Minn.) 5, UW-Eau Claire 2
Down 3-0, the women's hockey team scored two second period goals cutting the Royal lead to 3-2 but was unable to complete the comeback as the Blugolds fell to Bethel 5-2 here tonight at Hobbs Ice Center. Eau Claire was outshot 39-10 for the game. The Blugold penalty kill again played well not allowing the Royals a goal on five power play opportunities.
