Men’s Basketball
Jack Martinek, Guard, 6-3, 190, Sophomore, New Brighton,
MN/Irondale
Martinek came off the bench to lead the Blugolds in scoring
against UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh. In a 61-60 loss to
second-ranked and defending national champion UW-Whitewater,
Martinek played 29 minutes scoring a game-high 19 points making
eight-of-11 field goals including three-of-four three-point field
goal attempts to go along with one rebound. Martinek gave the
Blugolds their final lead of the game at 60-59 when he made a
lay-up with three second remaining in regulation. In a 78-66
loss to UW-Oshkosh Martinek played 33 minutes scoring a team-high
15 points on seven-of-13 shooting in addition to collecting four
rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot. For
the week Martinek averaged 17 points, 2.5 rebounds, one assist and
one steal per game converting 15-of-24 (.625) field goals including
four-of-eight (.500) three-point field goals.
Women’s Basketball
Teenie Lichtfuss, Guard, 5-10, Junior, Oshkosh,
WI/Lourdes
Lichtfuss was a key factor for the Blugolds in defeating
defending conference champion UW-Whitewater and
17th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. In a 64-58 victory at
UW-Whitewater Lichtfuss scored a game-high 12 points converting
four-of-nine field goal attempts, two-of-four three-point field
goals and two-of-two free throws in addition to collecting five
rebounds, two assists and two steals in 33 minutes of play.
The win ended a six-game losing streak to the Blugolds. It
was the first win by Eau Claire at Kachel Gymnasium since a 61-34
victory on February 26, 2009. In a 63-57 win at UW-Oshkosh
Lichtfuss played 39 minutes scoring a game-best 20 points making
eight-of-14 field goals, two-of-four three-point field goals and
two-of-two free throws to go along with six rebounds, four assists
and one steal. The win at Kolf Sports Center ended a
three-game losing streak to the Titans. For the week
Lichtfuss averaged 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and 1.5
steals per game shooting 12-of-23 (.522) from the field,
four-of-eight (.500) from the three-point line and four-of-four
(1.000) from the free throw line.
Gymnastics
All-Around: Tori Erickson, Freshman,
Woodbury, MN
Erickson placed second in the all-around competition with a
score of 36.375 as the Blugolds lost to host UW-Oshkosh
183.375-182.500. Erickson placed fifth on the floor with a
score of 9.375, sixth on the balance beam earning an 8.900, seventh
on the uneven bars posting a 9.025 and eighth on the vault scoring
a 9.075.
Stedman posted a strong showing in a 183.375-182.500 dual meet loss at UW-Oshkosh. Stedman tied for first place on the vault earning a 9.375. On the floor Stedman finished third earning a 9.500 while placing eighth on the bars with a 8.975.
Wrestling
Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Junior, Bruce, WI
Behnke earned a second place finish at 141 pounds at the
Matman Invitational hosted by Cornell College (Iowa). Behnke
started the day pinning Trey Schuler of Coe College (Iowa) at
2:21. Behnke advanced to the finals by earning a major
decision over Jahleel Vester of Central College (Iowa) 17-8 and
scoring a technical fall over Jared Brathor of Cornell 15-0.
In the championship match Behnke lost a close 3-2 decision to Eric
Clark of Wartburg College (Iowa). For the day Behnke went 3-1
earning victories by major decision, technical fall and pin.
Behnke outscored his opponents 34-11.
