Men’s Basketball
Tyson Kalien, Guard, 6-1, 210, Junior, Chippewa Falls,
WI
Kalien helped lead the Blugolds to a 2-1 record over
Christmas break which included playing two games at the Tampa Bay
Shootout in Florida. In a 83-78 double-overtime victory over
Hobart (NY) Kalien scored 24 points to go along with four rebounds
and three assists. Kalien went eight-for-12 (.667) from the
three-point line in a game which the Blugolds were trailing 42-27
at the half. Advancing to the Tampa Bay Shootout championship
game where the Blugolds loss to DePauw (IN) 66-48 Kalien scored
seven points on two-of-four shooting from the floor including
one-of-two from the three-point line and two-of-three from the free
throw line. The Blugolds earned their first conference win of
the year in a 83-78 victory at UW-La Crosse that saw Kalien lead
all scorers with 32 points connecting on 10-of-17 field goal
attempts, five-of-seven seven three-point field goals and
seven-of-10 free throw attempts. Kalien also grabbed four
rebounds and added one assist. Over the last three games
Kalien has averaged 21 points, three rebounds and 1.7 assists
making 20-of-36 field goals (.556), 14-of-21 three-point field
goals (.667) and nine-of-13 free throws (.692).
Women’s Basketball
Courtney Lewis, Forward, 5-10, Senior, Prairie du Chien,
WI
Lewis helped lead the Blugolds to a 2-1 record over Christmas
Break which included two games in Texas. In a 66-53 overtime
win over McMurry (TX) Lewis led the Blugolds with 14 points and
four assists to go along with three rebounds and two steals.
In a 60-46 loss to Trinity (TX) scored led the Blugolds with four
assists to go along with four points, one rebound and one blocked
shot. Lewis posted a game-high 17 points in a 66-46 win
against UW-La Crosse. Against the Eagles Lewis tied for the
team lead in assists with three to go with five rebounds and one
steal. In three games Lewis averaged 11.7 points, 3.7
assists, three rebounds and one steal per game connecting on
13-of-36 field goals (.361), three-of-seven three-point field goals
(.429) and six-of-seven free throws (.857) to with a 2.2:1
assist-to-turnover ratio.
Women’s Hockey
Jennifer Thomsen, Forward, 5-7, Freshman, Apple Valley,
MN
Thomsen scored her first collegiate goal as the Blugolds
returned to the ice with a home-and-away series with St.
Mary’s University (MN). Down 3-0 on the road, Thomsen
scored her first goal of the season at 16:46 of the second period
cutting the Cardinal lead to 3-1.
