3 Blugolds named Kwik Trip WIAC Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Arianna Barrett (So.—Lakeville, MN/ North) ,Taylor Scalia (Jr.—Lake Elmo, MN/ Stillwater), and Emma Steffel (So.—Green Bay, WI/ Ashwaubenon) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week, as was announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Barrett was instrumental in a 3-0 record during the week for the Blugolds as they increased their winning streak to 10 matches. She played a key role in beating No. 1-ranked University of Chicago (Ill.) (3-1) giving the Maroons their second loss of the season. The Blugolds also beat College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) and UW-Oshkosh. Barrett played in all 10 sets for UW-Eau Claire and tallied 45 kills (4.50 per set), while hitting .415. On the defensive side, she had 30 digs (3.00 per set) and 12 block assists (1.2 per set). 

Scalia was a defensive key for the Blugolds as they went 3-0 on the week and recorded their 10th straight victory. She helped UW-Eau Claire upend No. 1-ranked University of Chicago (Ill.) (3-1) giving the Maroons their second loss of the season. The Blugolds also beat College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) and UW-Oshkosh. Scalia played in all 10 sets and tallied 55 digs (5.50 per set), along with six assists.

Steffel was a member of UW-Eau Claire's winning 200-yard medley relay team with a split of (27.82). She also won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.89) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.89). Her 200-yard backstroke time is the best in the WIAC. Steffel was also a member of the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay.
