FRIDLEY, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated Northwestern College (Minn.) 9-0 today at Lifetime Fitness.
Sweeping singles play, Lexi DeMario (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) didn't drop a single game at No. 6 as she won 6-0, 6-0. Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.), playing in the No. 3 spot, lost just one game as she won 6-1, 6-0.
The closest match of the night was contested at No. 2 singles. Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) pulled off the win, 6-0, 2-6, 10-7.
In doubles competition, Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Gillman had the largest margin of victory as they won 8-3 in the No. 1 spot.
The Blugolds are now 16-5 on the season while the Eagles fall to 8-10.
Next Saturday (April 28) the Blugolds will be at the WIAC Automatic Qualifier Tournament in Whitewater. They will face UW-Oshkosh at noon and will compete in the third place/championship match at 3 p.m.
