Women's Tennis Falls to UW-Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team fell for the second day in a row with an 8-1 loss to conference leader UW-Whitewater at the Ade Olson Outdoor Courts today.

The Blugolds drop to 8-4 on the season and 4-2 in the WIAC. Whitewater improves to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Both teams wrapped up conference play today and will next compete in the WIAC Championship, scheduled for next Saturday and Sunday in Madison.

Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) were the lone winners today for Eau Claire. Competing at No. 1 doubles, the pair picked up an 8-4 win. The duo improved to 15-2 on the season, winning nine straight, with a perfect 6-0 conference.

Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) played the closest singles match, competing in the No. 2 spot. She opened with a 6-1 win in the first set but ended up losing the match as her opponent recorded 6-1, 6-0 wins in the second and third sets.
