Women's Tennis Captures 8-1 Win over Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team secured its sixth consecutive dual meet win with a dominating 8-1 victory over UW-Oshkosh this morning.

The Blugolds swept singles play but fell just short of the complete meet sweep with a narrow loss in the No. 3 doubles match. In singles, Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) and Lexi DeMario (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) gave up just four games in their respective No. 4 and No. 6 victories. No. 1 Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and No. 5 Renee Nelson (Fr.- Madison, Wis./La Follette) had two of the closest matches of the day, battling to respective 7-6, 7-5 and 3-6, 6-1, (10-8) wins.

In doubles, Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Heltne teamed up for an 8-3 win from the No. 1 spot to lead the Blugolds. No. 3 pair DeMario and Mary Frassetto (So.- Oshkosh, WI/West) nearly captured the ninth Eau Claire win but fell just short 9-7.

The Blugolds maintain their perfect conference record and now stand 8-2, 4-0 on the season. The team will return home for a pair of conference matches next weekend, beginning with a 10 a.m. meet against UW-La Crosse on Saturday, Oct. 15.
