Women's Tennis Beats Nebraska Wesleyan 7-2

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – In its second competition on Spring Break, the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team beat Nebraska Wesleyan University 7-2.

Eau Claire finished with three doubles wins and four singles victories.

In doubles, Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) won 8-4 in the No. 1 spot while Lexi DeMario (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) and Mary Frassetto (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) won 8-4 at No. 3. Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) and Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) picked up an 8-6 No. 2 doubles win.

In singles play, all four Blugolds won in straight sets.

Heltne won No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0 while Gillman won No. 3 6-0, 6-3. Renee Nelson (Fr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) recorded a 6-4, 6-4 No. 5 singles win and DeMario won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

Eau Claire improves to 9-5 on the season.

Tomorrow morning the Blugolds will face the University of St. Thomas (Minn.).
