DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) 8-1 in the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse today.
The Blugolds swept doubles competition and won five out of six singles matches.
In doubles play, each match was closely contested. Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) and Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) had the largest margin of victory, winning 8-4 in the No. 2 spot.
On the singles side, the No. 2 and No. 3 matches were played closely but the Blugolds came away with wins in straight sets at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6.
Johnson gave up the fewest games as she won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.
Eau Claire is now 14-5 on the season while the Saints drop to 10-6.
Sunday the Blugolds will host Edgewood College in a competition beginning at 10 a.m.
