Women's Tennis Opens Season with Two Wins

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team opened the season with two wins in Iowa today.

Eau Claire started the day with a 9-0 win over the University of Dubuque and closed the day with a 7-0 victory over Loras College (Iowa).

In every singles match played today, no Blugolds gave up more than two games.

Freshman Maddie Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./South) had the best score against Dubuque as she won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot while Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against Loras.

In doubles play, while the Blugolds swept all six matches, Renee Nelson (Fr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) and Stephanie Wolf (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) didn't fall once as they won 8-0.

Next up, the Blugolds will be in Iowa again next weekend, this time in Decorah. They will face Luther College (Iowa) at 9 a.m. and will take on St. Benedict (Minn.) at noon.
