EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team cruised to its second straight 9-0 win with a sweeping victory over Macalester College (Minn.) this morning at the Simpson Outdoor Courts.
In singles competition, three Blugolds gave up just two games or less in their match victories. Lexi DeMario (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) led the way with a 6-0, 6-1 win from the No. 6 slot. Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) defeated her No. 4 opponent 6-2, 6-0 while Renee Nelson (Fr.- Madison, Wis./La Follette) followed suit and claimed the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-1.
The Blugolds showed their strength in the doubles play as well. Stephanie Wolf (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) and Madison Rossebo (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) teamed up for an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 match. No. 1 duo Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) and No. 2 pair Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.- Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Johnson both nabbed 8-3 wins.
The sweeping victory boosts the Blugolds to 4-2 on the season. Eau Claire will next host UW-River Falls at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.
