Women's Tennis Wins Twice in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up two wins this weekend, defeating St. Catherine University (Minn.) 9-0 and Bethel University (Minn.) 7-2 today.

Sweeping St. Catherine to open the day, Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) lost the fewest games for any Blugold as she won in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles spot. In doubles play, the Blugolds won with scores of 8-5, 8-3, and 8-4 at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Against Bethel, the Blugolds won all three doubles matches and four of six singles competitions.

Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) secured a commanding victory at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. She also teamed up with Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Eau Claire is now 13-5 on the season.

The Blugolds will next compete on April 13 at the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) in Duluth. Action will get underway at 1 p.m.
