Women's Tennis Wins Third in a Row

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up its third straight win by a score of 9-0 with a victory over UW-River Falls at the Ade Olson Indoor Tennis Courts today.

The Blugolds improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Falcons drop to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the WIAC.

In singles play, Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won by the largest margin with 6-2, 6-0 victories in the No. 1 spot. She remains undefeated this season in singles competition, holding a 7-0 record. Heltne and partner Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) also won their fourth straight No. 1 doubles match with an 8-2 win. Gillman also won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2.

Falling in just three games, Lexi DeMario (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) won in the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-1 while Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3.

In the No. 6 spot, Stephanie Wolf (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory and Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) won 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4.

In doubles play, Bachmeier and Johnson won 8-4 in the No. 2 spot and DeMario and Mary Frassetto (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) had an 8-4 victory at No. 3.

Next for the Blugolds is the three-day ITA Tournament this weekend in St. Peter, Minn. The tournament begins Friday and ends Sunday.
