Women's Tennis Drops First WIAC Contest of Season

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team fell for the first time this season to a conference opponent, dropping a match against UW-La Crosse 5-4 at the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

The Blugolds drop to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC while La Crosse improves to 8-2 on the season and 3-2 in the conference.

A pair of doubles teams picked up wins to open the day as did two singles players.

Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) won 8-3 in the No. 1 spot while Lexi DeMario (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) and Mary Frassetto (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) won 9-8 at No. 3.

In singles play, Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Gillman were the lone winners but each match was contested closely.

Bachmeier won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 and Gillman won 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot.

Tomorrow the Blugolds will host UW-Whitewater in another conference contest beginning at 10 a.m.
