Women's Tennis Sweeps UW-Stout

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team opened home and conference play today with a 9-0 victory over UW-Stout.

The Blugolds (3-2) had little trouble with the Blue Devils (1-4).

In doubles play, all three Blugold teams won with scores of 8-1.

On the singles side, Gretchen Bachmeier (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North), Maddie Johnson (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) and Renee Nelson (Fr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) all won with scores of 6-0, 6-0. The three played in the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.

Katie Gillman (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) picked up a No. 3 singles win of 6-1, 6-0 while Taylor Heltne (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won with scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Heltne remains undefeated on the season in singles play with a 5-0 record. Mary Frassetto (S0.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) also picked up a victory at No. 6 with scores of 6-2, 6-3.

The Blugolds will be home again Saturday when they face Macalester College (Minn.). Action is set to get underway at 9 a.m.
