SAINT PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's hockey player Tyler Jundt (Sr.-Williston, N.D.) was named the 2012 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's (NCHA) Co-Scholar-Athlete, leading eight Blugolds on this year's All-Academic team, NCHA Commissioner Bill Kronschnabel announced today.
Jundt is a two-time NCHA All-Academic winner and has been on the Academic Distinction and Dean's List at UW-Eau Claire a number of times. He has been captain of the Blugolds for the past two seasons and received the UWEC Richard G. O'Brien Award last year in recognition of excellence in the classroom and on the ice. Jundt has volunteered in several capacities during his time at UW-Eau Claire, including local youth hockey and book drives. This season Jundt was named to the All-NCHA team while being a major contributor on a Blugold blue line that reached the semifinals of the Peters Cup Playoffs.
The Scholar-Athlete Award is given annually to a senior or seniors who demonstrate excellence both on and off the ice, who earn a minimum GPA of 3.5 and who are in their final year of eligibility.
In addition to Jundt, Jordan Singer (Jr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Andrew Wilcox (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) was named to the All-Academic Team for the second time in their careers.
Singer led the Blugolds this season with 14 goals and tied for first on the team with 20 points. He had a team-high four game-winning goals and scored a power-play goal.
Wilcox played in just nine games this season but recorded right points (three goals, five assists).
First-time selections were Robbie Anderegg (So.-Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic), Isaiah Bennis (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), PJ Kavaya (Sr.-San Clemente, Calif.), Devin Mantha (Jr.-Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Ann Arbor Pioneer) and Alex Olson (So.-Devils Lake, N.D.).
Anderegg was part of a defense that allowed 709 shots while the Blugolds accumulated 875. Playing in 25 games, he had two assists.
Bennis competed in 21 games this season and had five points. One of his three goals came on a power-play.
Kavaya, who was also a defenseman, played in 24 games and accumulated four assists.
Mantha played in 26 games and finished seventh on the team with 11 points, coming from seven assists and four goals. He had one game-winning goal, one short-handed goal and one power-play goal.
Olson played in all 28 games this season on the defense. He scored two goals and had four assists this season.
