SUPERIOR, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team handed UW-Superior its fourth straight loss with a 3-1 win over the Yellowjackets tonight.
The Blugolds, who haven't lost since December 10, scored goals in all three periods tonight.
Kurt Weston (Jr.-Roseau, Minn.) had two of the Blugolds' three goals while Jared Williams (So.-West Chicago, Ill./Bartlett) scored the other.
Williams put the Blugolds on the board in the opening period as he scored at 15:19 with assists from David Donnellan (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Drew Darwitz (Jr.-Woodbury, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall).
In the second period at 10:42, Weston scored the eventual game-winner with assists from Andrew McCabe (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Robbie Anderegg (So.-Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic).
While Superior scored with just over three minutes to play in regulation to make the score 2-1, Weston, with an assist from Ross Andersen (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.), scored the final goal of the night just six seconds from the final horn on an empty net.
The Yellowjackets edged the Blugolds in shots, 25-17 and committed only six penalties while the Blugolds had seven. However, Superior finished with 23 minutes in the penalty box to 14 for Eau Claire.
Brandon Stephenson (Jr.-Saline, Mich.) was in-net the entire night for the Blugolds and made 24 saves.
The Blugolds improve to 11-6-1 on the season and 5-6 in the NCHA. Superior drops to 8-8-2 overall and 3-6-2 in conference play.
Saturday, the two teams will face each other again in Superior. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.
