MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Two UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.
Being recognized this week were men's track & field athlete Tony Sigrist (Sr.-Byron, Minn.) and men's hockey player Jordan Singer (Jr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial).
At UW-River Falls' Brooks Classic on Feb. 11, Sigrist won the weight throw with a distance of 64-10 3/4, almost four feet better than the rest of the field and just two inches short of a school record. The distance was also the second best in NCAA Division III this year. He also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 50-6 3/4.
Singer was an offensive force for the Blugolds as they finished their last weekend of regular- season play. On Feb. 10, he scored one of the three goals the Blugolds had in their 3-3 overtime tie with UW-Superior. On Feb. 11, Singer recorded his first hat-trick of the season and second of his career. Singer's three goals were the only goals the Blugolds put on the board in their 5-3 loss to No. 13-ranked College of St. Scholastica (Minn.).
