MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Tyler Jundt (Sr.-Williston, N.D.) has been selected the recipient of the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Max Sparger Men's Ice Hockey Scholar-Athlete Award.
A senior from Williston, N.D., Jundt carries a 3.80 grade point average and is majoring in finance. After transferring from Bemidji State University (Minn.), he was a member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) All-Academic Team in 2011 and recognized on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Jundt has received Academic Distinction and Dean's List honors from UW-Eau Claire numerous semesters.
A two-year team captain, he is a two-time All-WIAC first team selection. He also claimed All-NCHA first team accolades this season. During the 2010-11 academic year, Jundt received UW-Eau Claire's Richard G. O'Brien Award for academic and athletics.
Off the ice and away from the classroom, Jundt has volunteered for UW-Eau Claire's football ball crew and Homecoming parade security. He has also served as a mini-mites instructor and goalie school instructor.
UW-River Falls' Jason Yuel (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) and UW-Superior's Tom Budziakowski (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Bishop Allen Academy) were also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award.
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Max Sparger, who served as Commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference from July, 1971 - July, 1993.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, he must be in his last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
