DECORAH, Iowa (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team split matches at Luther College (Iowa) today, falling to Luther 7-2 before picking up an 8-1 victory over Cornell College (Iowa).
Facing Luther, the Blugolds managed just two singles victories. Lars Olson (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) won 7-6, 6-2 in t he No. 2 spot while Ben Robertson (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) came from behind at No. 5 for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.
The Blugolds had better luck facing Cornell later in the day. Eau Claire fell only at No. 3 doubles.
Eau Claire easily handled their opponents in singles play, with everyone winning in straight sets. Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.), playing the No. 1 spot, lost just one game as he won 6-0, 6-1 overall.
In doubles play, Kuna and Olson won 8-5 at No. 1 while Dirk Van Rybroek (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Eric Wollum (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) picked up an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 spot.
Eau Claire is now 21-3 on the season.
Tomorrow the Blugolds will head to Saint Peter, Minn. to face Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). Action will get underway at 9 a.m.
