Men's Tennis Comes up Short in NCAA Opener

SAINT PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - While the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team got off to a good start in an NCAA First Round match against Grinnell College (Iowa), the Blugolds had a tough time down the stretch and fell 5-3 at Swanson Tennis Center at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) today.

The Blugolds end the season with a mark of 24-6. Grinnell College improves to 23-7 and moves on to the second round of competition tomorrow.

Eau Claire opened with two doubles victories but came away with only one singles match win.

The Blugolds picked up two 8-5 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.) and Florent Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won in the No. 1 spot while Dirk Van Rybroek (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Eric Wollum (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won at No. 2.

Wollum was the lone Blugold to pick up a singles victory. Playing in the No. 3 flight, he won 7-5, 6-2.
