HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team's 18-game win streak came to a halt today, as Carleton College (Minn.) defeated the Blugolds 5-4 on the last day of the spring break trip.
The Blugolds swept the top three matches in singles play. Eric Wollum (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) in the No. 3 spot didn't give up a single game in his 6-0, 6-0 win. In the No. 2 match, Lars Olson (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) picked up the 7-5, 6-2 victory. Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.) had a closer match in the No. 1 spot, as he recovered from a second set loss to win 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
Eau Claire also pulled off one doubles win of the day. Kuna and Olson combined to take the No. 1 match by a close 8-6.
The Blugolds drop to 18-2 overall. The Blugolds were also supposed to face Centre College (Ky.) today but the contest was cancelled.
Although the spring break play is finished, the Blugolds will return to Eau Claire to host the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Friday, April 1. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
