Men's Tennis Pushes Win Streak to 17

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team pushed its win streak to 17 with an 8-1 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on the third day of its spring break trip today.

The Blugolds swept all three matches in doubles play.

Dirk Van Rybroek (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and partner Eric Wollum (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) played very well in the No. 2 spot, coming away with an 8-0 win. The duo has won 11 straight No. 2 doubles matches, dating back to February 5.

At No. 3 doubles, Florent Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Ryan Vande Linde (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 8-3, while Chris Kuna (Jr.-Edina, Minn.) and Lars Olson (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) picked up an 8-4 win in the No. 1 spot.

In singles play, the Blugolds won every match except at No. 2.

All five winners won in straight sets and none of them lost more than four games.

Kuna had the most solid win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 spot. Vande Linde lost just three games as he won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

In the No. 3 spot, Wollum won 6-1, 6-3 while Marco picked up a 6-0, 6-4 No. 4 win and Ben Robertson (So.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5.

The Blugolds are now 17-1 on the season.

Tomorrow morning the Blugolds will face The University of Scranton (Pa.).
