EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire head women's volleyball coach Kim Wudi recently announced team awards at the team's year-end banquet.
Receiving Co-Most Valuable Player honors were Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.) and Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central).
Bomgren led the Blugolds with 479 kills while compiling a hitting percentage of .227, third best on the team and 14th best in the conference. She was second on the team with 42 service aces and fourth with 51 total blocks and 277 digs. Bomgren was selected to the All-WIAC first team this year and received AVCA All-Region honorable mention recognition.
Neave led the Blugolds and is third in the conference averaging 10.59 set assists per set. She had a total of 1,440 assists this season. Neave was also fifth on the team with 32 service aces. Neave was named an AVCA All-American third team selection this season while also earning All-WIAC first team honors. In 2009, Neave was named the Blugolds' Newcomer of the Year.
Anne Satterlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) was selected as the Most Valuable Offensive Player while Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player for the second year in a row.
Satterlee, who was the WIAC Player of the Year this season, ranked second on the team and fourth in the WIAC with 4.12 points per set. She was fourth in the conference and second on the team with 3.36 kills per set and sixth in the WIAC and first on the team with a .273 hitting percentage. Satterlee was also fourth on the team with 40 service aces and third with 91 total blocks. Satterlee earned AVCA All-American second team honors.
This year Sutherland led the Blugolds and finished fourth in the conference with 4.59 digs per set, compiling a total of 629 digs throughout the season. She was also fourth on the team and 11th in the WIAC with 0.30 service aces per set. Sutherland was honored on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team this season. In 2010, Sutherland earned team most improved honors.
The Newcomer of the Year award was presented to Kelly Riesgraf (Fr.-Chaska, Minn.). She competed in 134 sets in 36 matches and finished with 172 kills, fifth most on the team. Riesgraf also had 100 total blocks, second most on the team.
Most Improved honors went to Juliana Burzynski (Fr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd). Burzynski played in 18 matches and 37 sets. She recorded three service aces and had 34 digs.
Kelly Schuh (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) received the Coaches' Award while Cheyanne Davis (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli) earned the Blugold Award.
Schuh played in 136 sets in 36 matches and finished with 348 kills, an average of 2.56 per set, which ranked third best on the team and 11th best in the WIAC. She had 30 service aces, fifth most on the team and recorded 326 digs, third most on the team.
Davis competed in eight matches and a total of nine sets this year. Last season, Davis earned team most improved honors.
This season the Blugolds tied for second in the WIAC with a 6-2 record while completing the year with an overall mark of 26-12. The team advanced to the NCAA Championship for the eighth straight year and 15th time overall.
