Volleyball Splits on Final Day of St. Norbert Tournament

DE PERE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team opened the day with a 3-0 win over UW-Superior but then fell to host St. Norbert College 3-0 on the final day of the St. Norbert Tournament at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Blugolds had little trouble with Superior in the first two sets, winning 25-10 and 25-12. The third set was closer but Eau Claire again came out on top 25-22.

In the match against the Yellowjackets, the Blugolds finished with 41 kills, led by Kelly Schuh (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) with nine. She hit .444 while the Blugolds hit .388 as a team. Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) led the Blugolds with 10 digs and 19 set assists.

Facing St. Norbert, all three sets were close but the Blugolds came up short in all of them. St. Norbert won with respective scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-22.

This time Anne Satterlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led the team with 10 of the Blugolds' 35 kills. As a team, the Blugolds hit .162. Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) recorded 11 digs while Neave finished with 10 and a team-high 31 set assists.

Eau Claire is now 13-9 overall this season. Yesterday, the Blugolds won their match against Carthage College 3-1 while defeating UW-River Falls 3-2.

Wednesday, the Blugolds will be back in action in Duluth, Minn. at the College of St. Scholastica. They will face Northland College at 6:30 p.m. and follow with a match against St. Scholastica at 8 p.m.
