Volleyball Wins Two on Day One of St. Norbert Tournament

DE PERE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball dropped the first set of two matches but came back to win both on day one of the St. Norbert College Tournament at Schuldes Sports Center tonight.

In the first match, Eau Claire lost 25-22 in the first set to 21st-ranked Carthage College. The Blugolds then narrowly won the second and third sets 25-23 and 25-22, before winning the fourth, and what proved to be the final set, more decisively 25-17.

Taking on UW-River Falls in the second match, the Blugolds dropped the first set 25-19. Eau Claire then won 25-14 in the second set before falling 25-18 in the third to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. In the final two sets, the Blugolds won 25-18 and 15-11 for the match victory.

Against Carthage, Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.) led Eau Claire with 21 kills as she hit .432. Bomgren also had four service aces. Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) had a team-high 51 set assists while she and Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) each recorded 17 digs to lead the team.

Facing River Falls, Bomgren, Kelly Schuh (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) and Anne Satterlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) all had 13 kills apiece to lead the Blugolds. Neave finished with a team-high 45 set assists while Sutherland led with 20 digs.

The Blugolds are now 12-8 on the season.

Saturday, the Blugolds will face two more opponents in De Pere. They will take on UW-Superior at noon and will close the weekend against host St. Norbert at 2 p.m.
