Volleyball Defeats Coe, Falls to St. Scholastica at Augsburg Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team completed the two-day Augsburg College Invitational with a win and a loss on Saturday at Si Melby Hall.

Eau Claire kicked off the day with a 3-1 win over Coe College (Iowa). Every set was closely contested. In the opening set, the Blugolds won 27-25, then Coe won 25-22 in the second set. But the Blugolds prevailed in the final two sets, 25-22 in both, to take the match victory.

To close the day, the Blugolds faced the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) but fell 3-0. The Saints won with scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 27-25.

Against Coe, Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.) finished with a match-high 23 kills. Four Blugolds reached double-figures in digs with Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) leading the way with 24. Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) recorded a match-high 48 set assists.

Facing St. Scholastica, Kelly Schuh (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) had 13 kills to lead the match and Sutherland had 13 digs to lead the team. Neave also led the match with 35 set assists.

Following the invite, Neave was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Blugolds are now 5-4 on the season and will next be in action Friday and Saturday at the Cornell College Classic in Mount Vernon Iowa.
