Volleyball Takes Two in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team picked up two wins at Reif Gymnasium on the campus of the College of St. Scholastica tonight.

The Blugolds opened with a 3-0 victory over Northland College and closed the night defeating host St. Scholastica 3-1, avenging a 3-0 loss suffered against the Saints earlier this year on Sept. 8.

In the match against Northland, the Blugolds hit .354, their third best performance of the season, as they defeated the LumberJills with scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-10.

Megan Tracy (So.-New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) finished with a match and career-high 10 kills as she hit .444. She also led the Blugolds with eight digs while Jenna Smits (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) recorded a match and career-high 27 set assists.

Facing St. Scholastica, the Saints won the opening set 25-22 but the Blugolds won the next three to take the match. Eau Claire won with scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18.

Two Blugolds finished with double figure kill totals with Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.) leading the match with 17. Anne Satterlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) recorded 13 and a match-high hitting percentage of .355.

Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) led three Blugolds in double figures with a match-high 18 digs while she also led the match with 45 set assists and three service aces.

Eau Claire improves to 15-9 overall and has won five out of its last six matches. Northland holds a 6-14 record while St. Scholastica is 9-9.

The Blugolds will be at home this weekend for the final time during the regular season. They host UW-Oshkosh at 2 p.m. and it will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day along with Team and Youth Day.
