MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team picked up two wins on the opening day of the Cornell College Classic today.

The Blugolds started with a 3-1 win over Augsburg College (Minn.) with scores of 25-20, 16-25, 25-19 and 25-16, and followed with a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) victory over host Cornell College (Iowa).
In the first match against Augsburg, two Blugolds reached double figures in kills with Anne Satterlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) leading the way with 15 and a hitting percentage of .522. Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 12 kills.
Leading Eau Claire with 18 digs was Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian), while Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) finished with 10 digs and 29 set assists.
Facing Cornell, the Blugolds hit .279 as a team and were led by Tessa Snell (Fr.-Edgerton, Wis.) with 13 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Three other Blugolds also reached double figures in kills.
Sutherland again led the team with 13 digs and Neave had a match-high 41 set assists.
Eau Claire is now 7-4 on the season.
Saturday the Blugolds will compete two more times at the Cornell College Classic. They will take on Bethel University (Minn.) at 9 a.m. and also the day against St. Olaf College (Minn.).
