Volleyball Splits Against Minnesota Opponents

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team won one and lost one in Minnesota at Schoenecker Arena on the campus of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) tonight.

The Blugolds opened with a match against Northwestern College (Minn.) and won 3-1. Eau Claire opened with 25-13 and 25-15 victories before Northwestern took the third set 25-21. But the Blugolds prevailed in a close fourth set 26-24 for the match victory.

Against 7th-ranked St. Thomas, the Blugolds dropped the first set 25-18 but came back and won the second 28-26. But the Tommies won the final two sets 25-18 to win the match 3-1, extending their home-court win streak to 20 over the last three seasons.

Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.) led the Blugolds with 15 kills against Northwestern while Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) had a team-high 22 digs and Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) finished with a team-best 47 set assists.

Facing St. Thomas, Bomgren again led the team with 16 kills while Tessa Snell (Fr.-Edgerton, Wis.) contributed 14. Sutherland led Eau Claire with 18 digs and Neave recorded a team-high 43 set assists.

Eau Claire is now 10-8 on the season.

This weekend, the Blugolds will travel to De Pere for the St. Norbert College Tournament. They will open the four-match weekend facing Carthage College, which is ranked 21st in the nation, at 4 p.m. Friday.
