  • ALL-AMERICANS, CONFERENCE POYs LEAD HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2023

    The UW-Eau Claire Blugold Hall of Fame Class of 2023 includes three conference players of the year, three first-, second- or third-team All-Americans, three WIAC All-Centennial picks, one member of a national championship team, four players who played in three or four consecutive NCAA championships, two players who played on the winningest team in their sport's history and two coaches who coached a national champion. The new class includes softball players Casey Leisgang and Sarah Weinke Murphy, women's basketball player Michelle Burns O'Connell, soccer player Anna Talbot Willkom, golfer and golf coach Meghan Sobotta Murphy and gymnastics coach Jean DeLisle.
  • Blugolds Capture Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball players earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athlete awards on Tuesday. With 15 Blugolds earning the Scholar All-American award, the team placed in the top-30 of all schools submitting honors.

  • Softball's Season Ends in Extra Innings Heartbreak

    WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team continued their run in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament on Friday morning as they faced off in an elimination game against UW-Stevens Point. A late rally off back-to-back Blugold home runs and a tally off a wild pitch sent the game into extra innings as both teams fought to stay alive in the tournament. A heartbreaking sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning would end UWEC Softball’s season as they fell to the Pointers, 4-3.
  • Softball Falls in WIAC First Round; Will Play UWSP on Friday

    WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team opened their first game of the 2023 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament on Thursday afternoon. As the 6th seed, UW-Eau Claire faced off with the 3-seed UW-La Crosse Eagles in the first round of the double elimination tournament. Despite finding the games first tally and forcing six UWL errors, the Blugolds gave up five runs in the final three innings during the 6-2 defeat.

It is the second week in a row that Maruna has been named the conference's position player of the week.

As both teams fought for important wins in the WIAC standings, both games were decided in the seventh inning. UW-Eau Claire's Megan Maruna (Sr. - Oswego, Ill.) and Madi Zerr (Sr. - Bristol, Wis./Wilmot Union) both secured walk-off winning hits as UWEC swept the Falcons 4-3 and 1-0.

After falling in game one 8-5, Madi Zerr (Sr. – Bristol, Wis./Wilmot Union) pitched a complete game shutout in game two and Eau Claire earned a 6-0 victory in game two.

(blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team were back on the road on Friday afternoon for their second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) series of the season. The Blugolds faced off with the No. 19 ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans during the afternoon doubleheader as they looked to climb the WIAC standings. Despite stranding 12 combined runners all day, UWEC fell in both games to the conference leaders, 2-3 and 0-2.
