Women's Tennis Beats Northwestern 8-1 for Eighth Straight Win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up its eighth straight victory, defeating Northwestern College (Minn.) 8-1 on the Olson Indoor Courts today.

The Blugolds swept singles competition while losing only the No. 1 doubles match.

In singles play, Eau Claire dropped a total of just 12 games as all six Blugolds won in straight sets.

Katie Gillman (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.) won without dropping a single game, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. She has won her past three matches and six out of seven this spring.

Maddie Johnson (So.-Lakeville, Minn./South) and Mary Frassetto (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) both dropped just one game, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

In doubles, Gretchen Bachmeier (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Johnson, along with Frassetto and Madison Rossebo (So.-Minnetonka, Minn.) won 8-2 competing in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

The Blugolds haven't lost yet this spring as they improve to 16-2 on the season.

They will compete next Saturday at the WIAC Team Tournament in Whitewater, which will determine which team from the WIAC automatically qualifies for the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship. Eau Claire will take on UW-La Crosse at noon while they will play again at 3 p.m. in either the championship or third-place match.
