Women's Tennis Takes Down River Falls 8-1

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated UW-River Falls 8-1 today.

The only match the Blugolds dropped was at No. 3 doubles. In the other two doubles matches, the Blugolds claimed 8-3 victories.

In singles competition, the Blugolds combined to lose just 10 games as all six Blugolds won in straight sets.

Colleen McCullough (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) had the largest margin of victory as she won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot.

Gretchen Bachmeier (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Mary Frassetto (Jr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) each lost only one game apiece as they won at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.

In the No. 1 singles spot, Taylor Heltne (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win while Maddie Johnson (So.-Lakeville, Minn./South) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 and Katie Gillman (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.) recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Eau Claire is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the WIAC. River Falls drops to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.

Saturday the Blugolds will be in St. Joseph, Minn. for two more contests. They will face Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 9 a.m. and will take on Macalester (Minn.) at 1 p.m.
