Heltne and Gillman Lead Women's Tennis at Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team kicked off the season this weekend with competition at UW-Whitewater.

Saturday at the Warhawk Invitational, Taylor Heltne (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Katie Gillman (Jr.-Red Wing, Minn.) won the No. 1 doubles draw as the Blugolds finished with 25 points to come in third place out of eight teams.

The Blugolds' No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams also did well as they claimed third-place finishes.

In singles competition, Maddie Johnson (So.-Lakeville, Minn./South) and Gretchen Bachmeier (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) came in fourth place in their respective draws.

Friday, the Blugolds opened the season facing UW-Whitewater in a dual, but came up short 8-1. Colleen McCullough (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) was the only Blugold to win as she claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles.

Eau Claire will be at UW-Stout Wednesday for a competition slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
