River Falls, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team traveled down the interstate to UW-River Falls on Friday, February 14th for their penultimate Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game of the season. The Blugolds would score early and often to propel them to a 6-1 victory.
Eau Claire would waste no time getting on the board as Steen Cooper (Sr. – Duncan, BC) would find the night's first tally just over two minutes into the first frame. After springing free on a breakaway, Cooper would deke the goalie right to left and finish on his forehand for the period's only goal.
The second period would see much more offense from the Blugolds as Simon Sagissor (So. – Stillwater, MN) and Adam Parsells (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) would both find pucks loose pucks to send past the Falcon netminder to increase the lead to 3-0. River Falls would add one late in the period, but not before Cole Paskus (Jr. – Madison, WI/West) would rifle a shot on an odd man rush for his third goal of the season. The teams would head to the final period with a 4-1 Eau Claire lead on the scoreboard.
The final frame would be led by the Blugold special teams as Scott Munro (Sr. – Vancouver, BC/St. George's) tallied his third goal on the powerplay and the Blugolds would kills off both powerplay chances that River Falls had. Zach Kennedy (Jr. – Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) would add a sixth goal to finish off the fast-paced evening.
Goaltender Zach Dyment (Jr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced to earn his 16th victory of the season. Dyment now holds a record of 16-2-2.
The Blugolds will travel back to River Falls on Saturday, February 15th for another contest against the Falcons. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM and will be Eau Claire's final regular season game of the year.
