Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team opened their 2019-20 season Saturday as they hosted Saint John's (Minn.) at Hobbs Ice Center. After getting on the board early in the first period, the Blugolds would not be able to find the back of the net again and finished with a 1-1 tie.

Box Score

A season ago, the Blugolds posted an impressive 11-2-1 record on home ice with aspirations of continuing their success in the home opener.

Adam Parsells (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) would get credit for the lone Blugold goal on the night after ripping a shot from the point. The puck would bounce around in front before finally making its way into the back of the net. The Eau Claire defensive would hold strong through the remainder of the first period to hold the lead at one.

Special teams play found multiple chances as both teams found themselves with 10 penalties a piece but neither team could convert. However, the Johnnies would tie things at 1 at the 5:38 mark of the second period and it would remain tied the remainder of the game.

Goaltender Zach Dyment (Jr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced and his recorded tie puts his Blugold career record at 27-11-4.

The Blugolds will be back in action on Friday, November 8th when they host St. Olaf (Minn.) in another nonconference matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM.
