Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey hit the ice once again Saturday evening as they continued Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play during a road game at the Fanetti Community Center in Menomonie, WI. The Blugolds would face off against the UW-Stout Blue Devils and would skate to a 4-1 win.
Continuing their offensive success from the previous night, Derek Hammer (Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) would get things started just halfway into the period after rifling one over the goalie's glove for his first goal as a Blugold. The Blue Devils would tie things up late in the period off a transition play.
In the second period, the Blugolds would control a majority of time in the offensive zone, outshooting the Blue Devils 13 to 6. After a quick breakout in the defensive end, Jake Bresser (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) would receive a stretch pass from Andrew McGlynn (So. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) to send Bresser ahead. While in one-on-one with the goalie, Bresser would find space under the blocker and rip one in the netting to give Eau Claire a 2-1 lead.
The last period would be all Eau Claire as Jon Richards (Jr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) would find the back of the net twice to increase his season total to three goals and seal the deal for the 4-1 Blugold win.
Goaltender Zach Dyment (Jr.-Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced and increases his record to 5-0-1 on the season.
The Blugolds will head out East next weekend, as they travel to Plattsburgh State University for the 2019 Primelink Great Northern Shootout Friday and Saturday, November 29-30. Eau Claire will face off against the hosts, Plattsburgh State at 7 PM.
