Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team headed back on the road Friday night as they took on the UW-Stevens Point Pointers in their first game of a weekend series. The Blugolds coming in with the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference lead would score early but fall in the third period 4-2.
In the first, Jon Richards (Jr. – Callaway, MN/Detroit Lakes) would find space in the slot and capitalize on the powerplay with a one-timer to put Eau Claire up by one through the period.
The Pointers would score a powerplay goal of their own just seconds into the second period to tie it up. It would be Matt Stanton (Fr. – Stillwater, MN) to give the Blugolds life again late in the period on an odd-man rush to gain the 2-1 lead. The Pointers would answer seconds later to send both teams into the third period tied at 2.
The third period would tilt away from the Blugolds after Stevens Point would take the lead with a loose puck goal and tack on a powerplay goal to make it 4-2.
Goaltender Zach Dyment (Jr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) would stop 19 of the 23 shots he faced. His season record now stands at 8-1-1.
The Blugolds will take things back to Hobbs Ice Arena on Saturday, December 14th as they wrap up the weekend series against UW-Stevens Point. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
