Volleyball Hands out Team Awards

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire head women's volleyball coach Kim Wudi recently announced team awards at the team's year-end banquet.

Taking home team MVP honors was Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) while she also earned offensive player of the year and coaches' award honors. Amici tallied 348 kills and a team and WIAC-leading hitting percentage of .335 this season. Named the WIAC Player of the Year, Amici finished with 152 totals blocks, a mark that ranks fourth in school archives for most blocks in a season. She finished her career with 418 total blocks, which ranks third all-time in school history.

Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) was named the team's defensive player of the year. Sutherland led the Blugolds with 488 digs, 3.78 per set, a mark that ranked ninth best in the WIAC. She also had 17 service aces, fourth best on the team. A season ago, Sutherland was named the team's most improved player.

Alexis Wong (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) was named the newcomer of the year. Wong played in 33 out of 35 matches this season and was second on the team with 29 service aces for an average of 0.31 per set, which ranked 11th-best in the league. She also finished with 121 digs, ranking sixth on the team.

Jenny Burzynski (Sr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) was presented with the Blugold Award. Burzynski competed in 31 matches and 108 sets this season, finishing third on the team with 281 digs.

Most improved honors went to Cheyanne Davis (Fr.-Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli). She competed in five matches and a total of seven sets this season, finishing with seven kills.
