Volleyball Splits Matches for Seventh at Augsburg Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – After dropping three straight contests, the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team pulled off a win in its final match of the 30th Augsburg College Invitational.

On the concluding day of competition, the Blugolds fell to the College of St. Benedict 3-2, but regrouped to defeat UW-Stevens Point 3-1 in the seventh-place match.

Eau Claire dropped the opening two sets of the St. Benedict match 25-20, 25-22. Though the Blugolds edged out wins in the next sets (29-27, 25-19), Eau Claire surrendered control and the Blazers captured the final set 15-10.

Anne Satterlee (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led the Blugolds with 22 kills while Jenny Burzynski (Sr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) tallied the team's most digs with 24. Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) recorded 58 of Eau Claire's 63 assists.

The Blugolds had their best showing in the final match of the weekend against Stevens Point. For the first time all weekend, Eau Claire was victorious in the first set, winning 25-22. The Pointers took the second 25-17, but solid play propelled the Blugolds to the match victory with set wins of 25-16 and 25-21.

Satterlee's 16 kills led the Blugolds in the Stevens Point match. Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn/Meadow Creek Christian) recorded the team-high of digs with 16, just surpassing Burzynski's mark of 15. Neave again made the most set assists with 54.

The Blugolds remain two games back from .500 with a 4-6 record. Eau Claire's next opportunity is the Oshkosh Invitational next Friday and Saturday. The Blugolds' first match is against Ripon College (Wis.) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
