Volleyball Strikes Down Stout in Conference Opener

MENOMONIE, Wis. (Bugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team kicked off Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in a winning way, defeating UW-Stout 3-0 this evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blugolds wasted no time in securing an initial 1-0 conference record. Eau Claire took the match in just three sets, winning 25-13, 25-17 and 25-18.

Anne Satterlee (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) recorded the most kills on the night with 10 while Jenny Burzynski (Sr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) broke into double-digit digs with a total of 11. Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tallied 40 set assists.

Two Blugolds also recorded hitting percentages over .500 during the match. Laura Slinger (Sr.-Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) led Eau Claire with a .571 percentage, recording eight kills on 14 attempts. Satterlee also averaged .529, making 10 kills on 17 attempts.

The Blugolds are now one win short of a .500 record, as tonight's victory boosted the team to 7-8. Eau Claire's next chance is this Friday with a conference match against UW-Stevens Point. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Stevens Point.
