Volleyball Rolls to Ninth Straight Win

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team defeated Northwestern College (Minn.) 3-1 tonight to pick up its ninth consecutive win.

The Blugolds quickly took the first two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-19. Northwestern nabbed the third 25-18, but the Blugolds regrouped in the fourth. Eau Claire jumped out to a 16-6 lead and held on to take the final set 25-17.

Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.), the current WIAC athlete of the week, led the Blugolds with the highest hitting percentage, recording 15 kills on 24 total attempts (.542).

Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) and Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) both tallied double digit digs, with 15 and 10, respectively. Neave also totaled 52 set assists on the night.

Eau Claire's winning streak puts the Blugolds at 18-11 overall. The last time the Blugolds recorded nine or more straight wins was during the 2009 season (11 matches – Oct. 23-Nov. 6). Northwestern recorded just its fourth loss of the season and falls to 25-4.

The Blugolds return to conference play this Friday night. Eau Claire will battle UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
