Volleyball Pushes Win Streak to Eight at Millikin Tournament

DECATUR, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – With two 3-0 victories on the final day of the Slagell Classic at Millikin University, the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team ran its win streak to eight today.

The Blugolds opened the day facing host Millikin and secured the match win with scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 27-25. In the day's final match against Lincoln Christian (Ill.) the Blugolds had an easier time as they won 25-17, 25-17, 25-6.

In the first match, Eau Claire spread kills out evenly as no one reached double figures. Kelly Schuh (So.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) and Laura Slinger (Sr.-Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) both had eight to lead the team. Three others each had six kills. Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) led the Blugolds with 14 digs while Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) had 12. Neave also had a team-best 24 set assists.

In the second match, Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 12 kills and hit .579. As a team, the Blugolds hit .506. Sutherland finished with 10 of the team's 34 digs and Neave had 33 of the Blugolds' 39 set assists. The team also finished with nine service aces, led by three from Amy Bomgren (Jr.-Woodbury, Minn.).

The Blugolds are now 17-11 on the season. Amici and Anne Satterlee (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) were named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the event.

Next up, the Blugolds will be at Northwestern College (Minn.) for a match at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. They will then close the regular season with two conference matches at home next Friday and Saturday.
