Volleyball Triumphs Over Superior

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over UW-Superior tonight, tacking on another victory to its all-time win streak over the Yellowjackets.

The Blugolds have now won 32 consecutive matches against Superior, including six-straight 3-0 victories. The last loss dates back to Oct. 1, 1994, when the Blugolds fell 3-2 at home. Overall, the Eau Claire is 66-21 all-time against the Yellowjackets.

Tonight, Eau Claire finished strong in all three sets, winning 25-16, and 25-17 in the first two. The third set was closer, but the Blugolds surged ahead from a 21-21 tie to take the final game 25-23.

Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) maintained a .600 hitting percentage throughout the evening, totaling 13 kills on 20 total attempts. Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) led the Blugolds with 14 digs and was one of three Blugolds to total double digits. Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) made 40 set assists and also tallied 10 digs.

The win also boosts Eau Claire's current win streak, as it is the team's third consecutive win. The Blugolds are now 12-11 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC for the year, while Superior falls to 11-10, 1-4.

Next Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Blugolds will take on UW-River Falls for the WIAC Breast Cancer Awareness event and Youth Night. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
