Volleyball Wins Two on Day One of Oshkosh Invite

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team opened day one of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational with two victories at Kolf Sports Center tonight.

Eau Claire (6-6) beat Ripon College 3-0 in its first match with scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 and closed the day with a 3-1 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18).

Against Ripon, Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 13 of the team's 44 kills as she hit .526. Amy Bomgren (Jr.-Woodbury, Minn.) also recorded double figures in kills with 10. Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) finished with a team-high 14 digs and Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) had 37 of the Blugolds' 41 set assists.

Facing Wisconsin Lutheran, Kelly Schuh (So.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) led the team with 13 kills while Amici finished with 10. Sutherland again led the Blugolds in digs by recording a career-high 23. Neave finished with 42 set assists.

Eau Claire has now won three matches in a row. In the all-time series, the Blugolds lead Ripon 3-1 while remaining undefeated against Wisconsin Lutheran (4-0).

The Blugolds will face UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at 10 a.m. and will follow with a final match at noon against Elmhurst College (Ill.).
